Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • Coarse salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter. Knead until smooth and elastic.
  3. Divide dough into 24 equal pieces. Roll each into a ball and flatten into a bite-size shape.
  4. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Bring a large pot of water to a boil, add baking soda.
  5. Boil pretzel bites in the baking soda water for 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon.
  6. Place boiled pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment. Sprinkle with coarse salt.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, brush pretzel bites with melted butter and sprinkle with more salt or cinnamon sugar.
  • Ensure water is boiling before adding baking soda for the perfect crust.
